Hydrant Flushing

Hydrant flushing to begin Sept 23

The Water Department for the City of Lexington will begin hydrant flushing on Monday, Sept 23 and expects the project to take approximately one week to complete.  Work will be done between the hours of 8am-4pm.

When you see crews in your neighborhood, you are being asked to avoid doing laundry, as lime deposits broken loose during the process can spot clothing.  Water, though possibly cloudy or discolored for short periods of time, will continue to be safe for consumption.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Coyote Sightings

Message from Mayor Johansen:

I have been in contact with Illinois Department of Natural Resources pertaining to the recent sightings of Coyotes within City limits. I spoke with someone in the Wildlife Nuisance Division.

I told him of the sightings we have had, and unfortunately just seeing them in your yard or your neighbor’s yard does not constitute a nuisance. There first needs to be an incident report filed that would reflect some type of aggression or threat towards a human or someone’s pet.

He suggested that concerned citizens go to urbancoyoteresearch.com and educate themselves on this issue. I have done so, and found it to be very good information. I urge you to visit the sight.

I know this is not what you wanted or expected to hear. But with our City limits basically next to Parklands Foundation property we must expect some wildlife to find its way in our yards.

I would strongly suggest if you are leaving any kind of dog or cat food outside that you stop that practice for the time being. And of course as per City Ordinance keep your pet on a leash at all times.

Should, you have any questions feel free to contact me, 309-365-3331, and I will do my best to answer any concerns. Or feel free to contact Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

Spencer Johansen, Mayor
